Flu update

H1N1 Update on Monday, May 4, 2009
Red Clay Opens Influenza Information Telephone Hotline

As of 2 p.m., Monday, May, 4, 2009, there have been no new reported cases of the H1N1 influenza in Red Clay schools. The count still stands at two probable cases of the flu: one at the First State School within the Wilmington Hospital and one at Baltz Elementary School. These are not confirmed cases. Baltz has been closed through Wednesday for precautionary reasons, based on the Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
All other schools in the district are open and operating normally. Red Clay is taking extra precautions for cleaning schools and will wipe down surfaces twice daily. Medical authorities have said that the virus lives only a few minutes outside the body. The district is working closely with state officials to monitor the situation. Please keep in mind that all symptoms seen in Delaware have been mild.
To keep parents and the community informed, Red Clay has created a telephone information hotline that can be reached at (302) 992-7977. This message will be updated on a daily or as needed basis throughout the week. Thank you.
