Prudential Spirit of Community

Here's a message from Cab's Guidance Department:

If you've made a difference by volunteering in your community over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washington, D.C.next May by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award!

Middle school applicants should turn their completed applications into Mrs. McKenzie no later than November 2, 2009. High school applicants should turn their completed applications into Mrs. Rigby no later than November 2, 2009. A selection committee will then choose one student applicant at the middle and high school level to represent Cab Calloway at the State level of the competition.

Cab Back To School Open House Wednesday!

You are cordially invited to attend our 2009-2010 Back to School Night! It will be held on Wednesday, September 30th from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Back to School Night is an opportunity to follow your student’s daily schedule, and spend ten minutes in each class learning about the class requirements for this school year. We’d love to see you! Please keep in mind that Back to School Night is not designed for students or for individual parent conferences. Thank you in advance for being respectful of all of our parents!

At this year’s Back to School Night – please make sure you visit the following locations when you have a moment:

The cafeteria – meet some of our cafeteria staff, and sample some of the food choices your students will have this school year.
The library – check out our renovated space, including three computer labs that are open to all classes on a sign up basis; AND visit our Book Faire that is being hosted in our library through October 2nd.
The lobby – Chat with our PTSO, and find out all that our amazing PTSO does for our school and for your students! Refreshments are available in our lobby compliments of our families who donated to our PTSO. In addition, the Wellness Center staff will be available – our WC offers a variety of services for all students who are members in grades 7 – 12 – don’t miss this opportunity! Several clubs will also be available in the lobby.
The Nurse’s Office, the Guidance Office, and the School Administration – the school nurse and our guidance staff will be available in their offices. In addition, the school administration will be available in the main office.

We hope to see you there!!

Travel to New York City with Cab community!

Here's a great bit of information from Middle School Vocal Music teacher Mr. Lassman:

Tickets for Middle School students and their family to see 'Wicked' sold out last Spring. Now, for those who don't have tickets to 'Wicked,' we are offering another show for that same date. We will be going on Thursday December 3 to see the fabulous show, 'Billy Elliott.' The music is by Elton John and the show won 10 (TEN!) TONY Awards. The cost is $150 per person. All students received permission slips to see 'Billy Elliott' but you can get another one at http://www.ccsavocal.org/CCSA/Billy_Elliott.html

We will leave CCSA as early as we can after 8:30am. Each family will have the day to spend in Times Square as they wish but we will make suggestions for things to do and see. At 7:30pm, we will gather to see the show which starts at 8:00pm. After the show (10:45pm) we will again get on our coach buses and return to CCSA at about 1:15am. Students who go will be excused from school (it is a field trip) on that Thursday.

This is a trip that is annually attended by a LOT of students and parents. Last year we took 465 people on the trip and received many emails saying what a great day it was!

We fully expect this trip to sell out. Return your forms and checks to Mr. Lassman, ASAP. Contact Mr. Lassman at 302-651-2701 x 226, or visit his website (www.CCSAVocal.org).
